Looking to make the switch to a toxin-free and eco-friendly beauty regime? Well, look no further than your kitchen! Chances are it’s full of all natural, plant-based ingredients that work a treat in homemade beauty products. These skin and hair-loving recipes are fun and easy to whip up, and you can even eat the leftovers…

Vanilla Ice Baby

This good-enough-to-eat scrub uses raw sugar to exfoliate dead skin cells and debris to leave you with baby-soft skin.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup raw sugar
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla essence

Method

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and transfer to an airtight jar. To use, simply scoop a 5-cent piece sized amount out with your fingers, and apply to wet skin while in the shower or bath.

Rose Glow Toner

A good facial toner helps balance your skin’s PH level, remove any makeup residue before moisturising, help shrink and clear clogged pores, and hydrate your skin. This beautiful toner uses soothing, antioxidant rich rose water, pore tightening witch hazel, and vitamin E loaded aloe vera which stimulates skin cell growth and promotes healing. It also uses apple cider vinegar which acts as a natural preservative and aids in removing skin bacteria and fighting and skin infections.

Ingredients

  • 100ml rose water
  • 2 tsp aloe vera juice
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Method

Place all ingredients into a bowl and mix until smooth and well combined. Transfer the toner to a glass spray bottle. After removing makeup and cleansing, simply spritz evenly over your face, or apply with a cotton pad.

Antioxidant Avocado Hair Mask

Mortgage or shiny hair? Avocado is excellent for treating damaged or dry hair as it’s rich in fatty acids which can coat your hair stands and aid your hair in retaining moisture, its natural oils provide your hair with long lasting hydration, and it contains a high level of vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant which helps prevent hair damage caused by free radicals. Olive oil moisturises the scalp and improves scalp blood circulation which makes your hair follicles stronger, producing softer, thicker stands of hair.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium overripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Directions

Using a fork, smash the avocado in a bowl until it’s smooth. Mix the olive oil and lemon juice in until the ingredients are well combined. Apply to slightly damp hair, leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse off before shampooing and conditioning your hair as normal.
