Peppered in remote NSW and Victoria, Unyoked cabins provide city-dwellers the chance to do nothing but chill in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by thousands of acres of wilderness. Minimilistically designed, Wifi-free, and dog-friendly, Unyoked cabins provide the bare essentials: bed sheets, towels, a gas stove, picnic table, fire pit, solar power, and of course, toilet paper. Unyoked caught Matthew McConaughey’s attention in 2019, so much so that he reached out to the founders and collaborated with them in designing the ‘The Reserve’ Unyoked cabin, now available for a two-night stay in the Central Coast Hinterland. Matthew McConaughey not included.
The premium Virgo Bubbletent, complete with an en-suite bathroom. Image source: Bubbletent Australia
Why glamp in an enclosed tent, when you can glamp in a (mosquito-repelling) bubble overlooking Capertree Valley, the second largest canyon in the world? Situated in a remote area of 1,000+ acre farm between Lithgow and Mudgee, there are three Bubbletent options to choose from: the Cancer, Leo, and Virgo, with each one being more luxe than the next. Our pick is the Virgo, complete with a wood-fired hot tub to stargaze from, and a herb garden. Capertree Valley also happens to be one of the 50 Important Bird Area sanctuaries in the world, which means some magical bird watching.

Run by the sun, wind, and rain in Nangus, NSW, you’ll find Kimo Estate’s three Ecohuts kilometres apart and perched high on the hilltops, overlooking the picturesque Murrumbidgee River flats. The Sweeney’s Hut is our pick of the three, boasting a wood-fired hot tub that doubles as a plunge pool in the summer.
Heaven does exist. Image source: Manshausan Island Resort
‘Where sea and mountains meet’, you can only get to this idyllic, private 55-acre island in Norway by boat. There are seven two-bedroom sea cabins to choose from, each boasting large glass windows for an indoor-outdoor living experience like no other.

Marvellous Mrs Maisel fans will be familiar with the leafy Catskills Mountains in Upstate New York, which in real life are home to a cluster of tiny Getaway Cabins. Nestled amongst the wilderness, these sleek and functional cabins fit either two or four people, and each comes with its own bathroom and kitchen for a more glamp-like experience. You can get here by train, and if you’re still tempted to use your phone despite the lack of Wifi, there’s an option to store it in a lockbox for a screentime-free getaway.
